As a spreadsheet entry worker, you must have good computer skills, especially with using spreadsheets. It is also important that you have a good typing speed, including attention to detail. You can begin this work as a high school graduate; however, to advance and apply for higher salaried jobs, you need to train yourself in other skills like transcription, writing, and translation. The average pay will vary with the level of expertise and the job complexity. A regular job will pay you per hour and the rates can range from $10 to $20 per hour. Having higher qualifications and expertise will earn you more money, than the individual who has only basic skills. Sometimes the employer will have a fixed salary scale or a fixed project rate which is non-negotiable.
Yet there is no tool for project management that is more popular or widespread than the spreadsheet, despite the fact that spreadsheets are not designed to be project support tools. Even in organizations with an established project management tool, spreadsheets are used. There are obvious reasons for this. A spreadsheet program is on almost every computer in every organization, people are familiar with spreadsheets and how to use them, and people are pre-disposed to use these "office" types of software tools to solve problems. And I am right there with them. I love using spreadsheets to track all kinds of data. It is easy, convenient, and I admit ego-boosting to show off what I can do in a spreadsheet.
If you are a regular user of Excel you will know the amazing power of this piece of software. If its used to anywhere near its full potential it can allow you to amaze your friends and colleagues and more importantly allow you to save time and work smarter and faster. Many people spend a long time building spreadsheets with little forward thinking and therefore making it difficult to re-use a spreadsheet or work book or really difficult to even just update the same sheets without having to repeat a lot of the work already put into it. The first important rule that I always follow when creating a spreadsheet is to have the long term vision in mind. I do not mind investing time and energy into something I do once that can be reused over and over again.
