Dont Forget About Transportation When choosing a place to live, consider transportation costs--fuel, commute, and the wear-and-tear on your vehicle. As a general rule, living within 15 or 20 minutes of the workplace and doctors office can save a lot of fuel, travel time and lengthen the life of your vehicle. Lastly, include an estimate on the monthly budget spreadsheet of how much youre planning to allot for entertainment. That way, you can save up your "entertainment funds" for something bigger (like a vacation) or spend it on smaller perks. Its also important to save some for emergency funds as well, because cars break down and people do become ill. All of this and anything else you can think of as a potential cost should be included on the spreadsheet so youll have some idea of what youre going to spend before you have to spend it. As each month passes, simply update the spreadsheet to reflect actual costs.

Include Groceries on Your Monthly Budget Spreadsheet Groceries should also be included on the monthly budget spreadsheet. Depending on where you live and how well you shop--using coupons and buying larger packages of paper products and non-perishables--you could easily spend $80 a week in groceries just for one person (and thats not eating steak every night or eating out). By the way, avoid eating out, if at all possible, and settle for a hearty meal at home. Find Good Insurance The insurance industry has grown tremendously and so has the cost--car insurance, health insurance, and renters insurance, to name a few. Your best bet in finding good rates rests on your history and good research. For example, if youve been ticketed for reckless operation recently, your rates could be double the normal amount. As far as health insurance, some companies are offering more than one type of plan--choose the more affordable one based on your current circumstances and you can keep some of your hard-earned money where it belongs--in your pocket or in the bank. The last type of insurance mentioned is renters insurance. Although it isnt necessarily required, it could save a bundle in the long run if something catastrophic happens. Thats right--insurance premiums should be included on the monthly budget spreadsheet as well.

The process of planning that very special day when you will be marrying the love of your life, can quickly turn into a mountain of stress and frustration with finances, if it is not done carefully. A unique tool that has been designed with brides-to-be in mind and can help prevent over-budgeting errors from occurring is known as a wedding budget spreadsheet. Never before has the task of planning, budgeting and categorizing the aspects of that big day been as simple and easy as it is when the benefits of this planning tool are used. There are many women that fret and worry over how much money should be applied to each category that has been planned for their big day. As each individual category, for most women, is as important as the next, this is often not a very simple task to achieve. This is, however, a worry that can be put in the past, when you make the wise decision to use a wedding budget spreadsheet throughout the planning process of your ceremony and reception.

I use a measuring wheel. I never use a tape measure any more. Tapes are too slow and usually only measure up to thirty-five feet. The measuring wheel can measure to one thousand feet and it costs the same as a big tape measure. Measuring wheels are usually made by the same companies that make tape measure, like Lufkin or Stanley, and they dont break as often as tape measures. Once you use a measuring wheel, you probably wont go back to a tape measure. I used to use the infra-red measuring device but I find them way too inaccurate. Usually, I measure before I start counting things like windows. Once I begin to count windows and molding, I make note of anything that will add or take away time, which means adding to the cost or lessening the cost. When I count windows, I make three columns, one for windows that are located below eight feet, one column for windows below fifteen feet, and one for windows twenty feet and above. This also applies to molding or anything else heights above eight feet, like dormers, ceiling medallions or whatever.

If its used to anywhere near its full potential it can allow you to amaze your friends and colleagues and more importantly allow you to save time and work smarter and faster. Many people spend a long time building spreadsheets with little forward thinking and therefore making it difficult to re-use a spreadsheet or work book or really difficult to even just update the same sheets without having to repeat a lot of the work already put into it. The first important rule that I always follow when creating a spreadsheet is to have the long term vision in mind. I do not mind investing time and energy into something I do once that can be reused over and over again.

A popular desktop programme that is often used in conjunction with this product is MS presentation software PowerPoint. PowerPoint gives you the opportunity to create professional-looking files that contain data in many forms, including numerical and pictorial. If your presentation could benefit from being bolstered by figures than you may like to book a training course that can help you get to grips with how MS Excel documents can be shared. The process of moving data from your worksheet to a PowerPoint file is straightforward. While in PowerPoint you need to identify the area of the document that you wish to receive the MS Excel file, then you simply use the Paste Options button to import data. In addition to adding your spreadsheets to the presentation programme, you can also copy and paste tables and charts, which can help bring your presentation to life.

There are buttons available that allow you to navigate to the Next or Previous comments as well as a command to delete the active comment. If you want to delete more than one comment at a time, use the Ctrl key to select all the relevant cells and then click the Delete button on the Review ribbon. Dont use the Delete key on the keyboard as this will delete the content of the cells rather than the comments. Viewing Excel provides two different commands for viewing your comments. They are both toggles so click once to show the comment and then click again to hide it. Show/Hide Comment is the command for the active cell only. Show All Comments is for all the comments in the worksheet. Show Ink is only applicable if you added ink annotations from a tablet PC. Keyboard Shortcut Add a new comment or open an existing one: 1. Select the cell 2. Shift + F2

This feature allows you to specify the conditions a value needs to meet and reject any values that dont meet your conditions. If you know, for example, the minimum and maximum values of your data, simply instruct Excel to highlight values that fall outside of that range. To take it a step further, create a drop-down list of values in an adjacent workbook, then use those to populate your active one. Youll limit your potential for error by choosing from an already known list of values. No fat finger errors here. Automate the Whole Thing Were biased, but the easiest and best way to prevent errors in Excel is to automate your work. Todays automation software packages (and there are many) work within and between your spreadsheets and other sources of data, like websites, to import, manipulate, copy, paste, and format data however you wish. Some log critical process information, sorts, and transforms data just like you would - through the presentation layer of the application. Unlike you (no offense), good automation software works without errors. If youre a CPA or work for any other firm that uses spreadsheets on a regular basis, consider automation software as an alternative to those every day manual processes.

In an analysis of multiple studies dating back to 2008, Marketwatch reported last year that almost 90% of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets contain errors. Even when created with the utmost care, the number and complexity of the formulas contained in our spreadsheets create significant opportunities for bad data. With about 1 Billion users of Microsoft Office users in the world, the absolute number of errors that potentially exist range in the hundreds of millions. We have some thoughts on how to prevent errors in Excel spreadsheets. Here are three of them: Most Errors are Caused by Bad Calculations: Check Your Formulas Methods of testing your formulas range from the simple to the absurdly complex. Lets ignore the stuff on the right side of the spectrum, and stick to what we can do right now. Did you know that highlighting a cell that contains a formula and pressing "Ctrl + [" will reveal the cells that feed into the total? Its a simple yet effective way to understand your data sources and identify what you missed, and what might have been double-counted. Simple stuff.

Keep to universal colours if you can, I find that black, white and grey colours work best, they look neat and professional but give the spreadsheet added value. 4. Adhere to default formatting of cells, that is text is aligned to the left and numbers to the right- this is what Excel expects. This can greatly speed up troubleshooting if you having issued with a formulas or referencing cells, as at a glance you can tell if the cells should be formatted and text or numeric. 5. Format cells as text only if you really have to, as all of the data you enter into a text formatted cell becomes text, even if you meant it to be numeric, this is one thing you do not want- any formula cells to be formatted as text.
