For easier comparison purposes, budget spreadsheets should be arranged in columns and rows with the rows detailing the specific niches such as sales, supplies and distribution. The columns can have such headings as Expenditure or Income pages followed by the actual figureheads. In this way it would be easier to make a comparison of such aspects as supplies against sales to identify the area that is performing well and one that undergoes losses. Then one can use the same excel table at the end of the year to come up with the annual returns or losses for each category. The margin of losses, if any, can pinpoint the way for budgeting in the coming year. Returns on the other hand can be great in scaling the market dynamics that prove favorable and that ought to be followed in the coming business semester.

Assess your cash flow and profitability with a quick and easy analysis of your medical billing Note: The first part of this useful article will cover how to pull data from financial reports and input it in the "dashboard" tool (spreadsheet) provided. Part II will cover how to compare your results to industry benchmarks ("healthy" ranges) and identify practice trends and areas of opportunity. One of my favorite quotes is, "You cant manage what you dont measure." It started for us as kids in school, when our work was managed by our teachers using the traditional grading system ("A" = good; "F"= not so good). In business, and specifically for medical practices, your "report card" consists of many areas that impact the cash flow and profitability of your business.

Calculator On Hand A very useful feature that comes necessary when formulating a budget is a calculator, and theres none better than having one embedded in the program. You will not always have a physical calculator on your table so to save you the hassle of finding your missing calculator around your home, an electronic calculator becomes handy. Furthermore, your physical calculator could run out of battery or run into problems. In this case, the programs calculator will always be available and working fine. Data Representation Finally, a very good feature for budgeting is the ability to represent the data in your planned budget in many forms. This aids in understanding the budget better and can help you find problems with your budget. The data you will enter in the rows and columns of your spreadsheet will not make much sense unless it is transformed into a chart or pie graph. Your program must be able such a thing in an instant. To finish, its important to know that every day, new programs are coming out offering "new" or "better" features than other products or previous versions. However, the above 3 characteristics will continue to be the most important ones. Keep this in mind while looking out for new products for your personal budget spreadsheet.

If you are an office clerk or reports assistant or even if you are a manager you will have to send reports on a monthly basis and more often they will have to do with comparing old and new files as well as updating them. To compare spreadsheet reports, you will have to understand the values being given and consolidate it with any changes made for a certain period of time. If you will be dealing with several files here to compare, you may find this a very daunting task. However, knowing that there is a tool you can use to make this task easier for you is a great relief. Working in a financial firm would entail a lot of reports to be submitted on a weekly, monthly, semi- monthly, quarterly and a yearly basis. All of these reports should be monitored, and most of the data where these reports come from are based from several spreadsheets that you will have to consolidate in a timely manner. To effectively have these reports updated, you can make use of a file comparison tool that can compare spreadsheet files and allow the user to make changes to it from one file to another.

IF Definition: IF(CONDITION, action or value if CONDITION is true, action or value if CONDITION is false) "If" Formula can work for anything that is based off of the data in another column. =IF(E15="ALUMINUM 2219", "TRUE", "FALSE") If the text of cell E15 is exactly "ALUMINUM 2219-T81" then the selected cell will display "TRUE", otherwise "FALSE" will be the value. This is a fairly easy macro to write and is good practice for beginners. Now we will make a message box automatically pop up when opening your workbook. You can either use the Auto Open method or the Workbook Open method. These macros will display the message "Hello" when you open the workbook. Sub Auto_Open() sgbox "Hello" End Sub This code would be located in the module. However, if you use the second method, the code must be in the workbook (double click "This Workbook" in the explorer window). Click on the drop down list (that says General) and select Workbook. Click on the drop down list (that says declarations) and select Open. Private Sub Workbook_Open() Msgbox "Hello" End Sub Youve just created your first macro. I will try to integrate different levels of difficulty from beginner, intermediate, and advanced tips for macros, formulas, and Excel tips in general.

Range Names group like cells together by some logic you decide. So rather than adding together the monthly sales in cells M5-M100, you can instead identify those cells by a name (say, MONTHSALES). Any data inserted between the first and last rows will be counted, your formulas will be easier to understand without all of those alphanumeric characters, and any errors will be much more obvious. Finally, use the "Trace Precedents" and "Show Dependents" functions in the Formulas tab for a visual representation of the values used to populate a sum, average, or other formula. This wont help you is the values themselves are bad, but itll help you visualize the flow of data into a destination cell and make any extraneous data obvious.

After measuring and counting I take my numbers and go to my office and prepare my estimate. If you do a search in Ezines, you will find other articles by me describing how I use the Excel Spread Sheet to total up and multiply high time factors to those elements of the job that are over eight foot high. Why? It takes you a lot more time to paint a window at twenty feet that it does at eight feet of height. After I total everything using the formulas built into the spreadsheet, I go to my estimating software and prepare the estimate. I itemize everything, I never do an estimate that says $2000 (or whatever amount it is), for painting the interior. I itemize everything, and its easier because that is how I count things. Also, because if I count 16 shutters and when I am painting them I count 20, I tell the customer that I only charged for 16, and they can see it in black and white, so they have to pay extra for the extra shutters, this way I dont get cheated. Anyway the subject of itemizing your estimate is a whole new article.

When developing a spread sheet solution in Excel, you make decisions and change features and formulas which at the time make perfect sense and have a logical flow. Once you come back to amend, or enhance or troubleshoot your spread sheet, what made sense at the time of development, may not be so obvious at a later date. So here are my top 5 things to avoid when developing a spreadsheet solution to enable you to troubleshoot any issues and make your spread sheet as efficient as possible. 1. Merged Cells. They may look good, but they can play havoc on the functionality of you spreadsheet including losing the ability to sort data correctly or run VBA as it does not handle merged cells very well. You also lose the functionality of a normal data table in Excel; that is the great functions such as Pivot Tables, SUMIF, COUNTIF etc the list goes on!. If you want to use Auto Fill- no chance with merged cells and do not expect to be able to copy and paste either.

You could pre-analyze the data in all those spreadsheets, and tack on comments that make the boss aware of your incomparable analytic capabilities. Nobody else (other than he, himself) gets all that data, so only you can come up with those insightful analyses. Tip #3: Automate the dashboard preparation Unless you are not doing any real work, you are probably thinking: "How am I supposed to do all the extra work to consolidate those spreadsheets into a dashboard"? If youre a programmer type, you can use little-known, built-in Excel capabilities such as the camera tool with VBA macros. Thats it. If you can successfully implement those 3 tips, youll be the person who controls the spreadsheet data your boss sees. Theres a catch, though: youd better be the first one to implement it. Because if one of your peers does this before you do, he becomes the indispensable person. Or, look for Excelential, a new kind of software that makes Excel dashboards easy to create. With software like Excelential, it will only take you minutes to create an Excel dashboard that brings charts and tables of data together from multiple spreadsheets. And once you have the dashboard set up, it will automatically update the dashboard for you every day.

There are buttons available that allow you to navigate to the Next or Previous comments as well as a command to delete the active comment. If you want to delete more than one comment at a time, use the Ctrl key to select all the relevant cells and then click the Delete button on the Review ribbon. Dont use the Delete key on the keyboard as this will delete the content of the cells rather than the comments. Viewing Excel provides two different commands for viewing your comments. They are both toggles so click once to show the comment and then click again to hide it. Show/Hide Comment is the command for the active cell only. Show All Comments is for all the comments in the worksheet. Show Ink is only applicable if you added ink annotations from a tablet PC. Keyboard Shortcut Add a new comment or open an existing one: 1.
