Thanks to budgeting tools such as a monthly budget spreadsheet, planning and monitoring your income and expenses can be done in a breeze. A budget spreadsheet allows you to update your entries easily without affecting the accuracy of figures in your budget. Monthly budget spreadsheets vary in layout, features, and information. However, there are several elements that are commonly used in these spreadsheets. o Income. This category is a list of different income sources such as salary, commissions, bonuses, and business revenue, among others. o Variable expenses. These are your expenses that change a little each month. Examples of variable expenses are clothing, food, recreation, entertainment, utilities (water and power bills), and groceries. The amounts you put into the variable expenses column of your monthly budget spreadsheet are approximations of the actual amounts every month.

The electronic spreadsheets have become an office standard ever since the first such computer programs became commercially available more than 20 years ago. And with its popularity there has become a need for spreadsheet training to keep employees up to date with their knowledge and skills or using it. Back during the infancy of this software, most people would use it for just two reasons: to store data (especially customer database) and as a glorified calculator. Perhaps because those are a spreadsheets intended or more practical uses or that people are not really that trained to use its features to the fullest. You would even be surprised that up to now there are office employees who, when they are prompted to make some calculations, they would open their spreadsheet software and do the calculations there.

You can have one sheet that keeps track of savings and investments and another sheet that lists your monthly bills. You may also want to track your current spending on one sheet with columns for different categories. Some individuals will list the budgeted amount in one column and then list the actual amount spent in the column next to it. Spreadsheet applications are useful for home and small businesses. Some people keep a home inventory list on a spreadsheet and others use spreadsheets for a variety of applications. Creating your budget and maintaining it is easy when you use budgeting spreadsheets. These are also easy to print out if you desire.

I use the spreadsheet along with MsWord to create a mail merge, the two programs work together to print addresses directly on flyers, post cards or envelopes. I can print 10,000 names in a few hours. There is no need to print labels and then have to stick them on your mailer. Another use for the spreadsheet is to do job costing. You can keep track of your painters hours and compare those hours to the hours you used to calculate the estimate for the job. Enter the painters names in the first column, you can then enter to rooms or job names in the first row. Then in each column under the room name put the hours or you can break it down further, putting the separate items like walls and molding/trim and keep track of the hours spent doing individual items. Of course there is always the profit and loss statement or spreadsheet with all expenses, which you give to the accountant. Using the spreadsheet to keep track of company expenses is a good use, and again you can use the "AutoSum" feature to keep totals. One nice thing about Excel is that if you change a figure in the column or row that you are totaling, the "AutoSum" will automatically adjust the total to reflect the new figure. So whatever uses you find for this program, you will find that it saves time and energy to do these repetitious jobs. And it will do things like adding or multiplying correctly and with ease.

Of course, who doesnt want these things? Just as you have to spend money in order to make money. You need to spend time to learn to save time. Spend a little time to learn how to use Excel and you will save time and have more customers. Excel can be an unpaid personal assistant. Some of the things that I use the Excel Spreadsheet for are to calculate square footages, lineal footages and total them instantly without errors. Even if the list is 25 items long, it will calculate the totals, without error in seconds. I use it for calculating square footages from the length and width of the room. I can take a list of rooms and add their dimensions, hit enter and the calculations are done for ceiling square footage, wall square footages, moldings, including baseboards, crown and chair railing. I can even make an additional factor for high time difficulty, or any other factor that can influence the job.

However, as weird as that may sound, it is one of the ways that a spreadsheet can help speed things up in the office. Especially if the employee has been working on spreadsheets for a long time that making fast calculations using the cells has become second nature to him. But there are other good uses for this application. You can track revenues and expenses. That is why spreadsheets are often used by accounting professionals. Even if you are the owner of a small business, you can greatly benefit out of using a spreadsheet. Just imagine logging all of your financial data on a ledger and making the calculations and comparisons manually or even with the use of a calculator. It would probably take you hours to finish everything wherein with a spreadsheet software you can do it in just a few minutes.

This means knowing exact amounts, colors, makes and models, etc of the goals you are striving for. Know them to the penny or they will be more difficult to achieve. It is a lot easier to find my friends house with a map if I know the actual address of the house and now just a street, city or state. The more specific the more easily I can get to that final destination. Break your goals into small bite size pieces Once you have a clear understanding of exactly what your goals are, the size and difficulty of them can become overwhelming. How will I ever make $10,000 in a month when I have never made more than $4000 in any one month in my life? How can I afford that $60,000 car when I can barely pay the payments on my piece of junk car I have now?

You can list dates bills are due and you can also use the calendar in accordance with your budget to plan for special items or vacations. Having everything in one place will make it easier to manage your finances and plan for the future. Another advantage to using a spreadsheet application for your budget is that you wont have to access the Internet to access your budget. You will be able to view it or work on it wherever you are and if you typically work on a laptop computer and take it with you when you travel, this can be extremely beneficial. Using budgeting spreadsheets to manage your finances is an easy and affordable way to stay on top of your financial game.
