It should be noted here that the function of a home budget is NOT just to formulate reports on monthly transactions. The function of a home budget is NOT Just to record income and expenses as they occur. Your family is not JUST about living or existing! What about dept management? What about your short and long term goals in life? Part of the totality of any home budget software is to deal with all of these issues. For, it is all of these issues that impact the way you live and the dreams you have about your future. Your home budget software should aid you in the reaching your short and long term goals in life. If it does not, than you should not be using it. Likewise, your home budget software should provide you with useful information about your future projected bank balances. Elements that contain Information such as daily bank balances, your lowest weekly bank balance, and bank balance trends over time (charts). If you are going to budget out your expenses, then those projected expenses will (over time) affect your bank balance. These elements are paramount to any successful home budget. Without their implementation, your financial lifestyle will revolve somewhere between banquettes and begging! Your budget spreadsheet or home budget software should also provide a means of correcting deviations between projected and actual income and expenses. Unless you plan to record every little expense, then expect deviations between your project bank balance and your actual bank balance.

The other important items on the list are monthly grocery needs, utility bills, home maintenance, maintenance of car or any other vehicle, entertainment, personal expenditure. Once the sorting of income and expenses is done make a column that indicate projected amount and another that gives actual amount for both income and expenditure. This way one can keep track of the actual amount of expenditure that is taking place and try to balance funds. Now days, there are many software programs available online providing a wide range of home budget spreadsheet. They are user-friendly with flexibility to represent data either as pie diagrams or charts. Inbuilt calculators in these programs save time on various calculations and are handy to use. With such understandable spreadsheets, one can take care of their finances in a better way and ensure the availability of proper funds not only during months end, but also in case of any emergency in long run. One should therefore look out for spreadsheets that have most of the above facilities and ensure an effortless budgeting experience.

These tables are quite efficient because they are automated with the same tabs that reflect a gain or a loss in normal ledger accounts. If at the end of the calculation the total is shown to tilt towards more expenditure, it appears automatically in scarlet numerals whereas if the total figure leans towards gains, then it is highlighted in a dark shade. This is often the lead that gives the user the assurance to go ahead planning using the same convenient table. Budget spreadsheets also aid in tracking expenditure due to the fact that they can be compatible with a number of similar technologies. They can be used in creating lists in emails as well as for being copied by browsers on a page to be viewed on another program. They can also be used to fill in data that has been scraped from any template because of their high compatibility.

The spreadsheet was introduced back in the 1980s and evolved into a complex program, but with the right experience it can be an effective tool for estimating large or small projects. Standalone programs work fine for estimating large projects; however they cannot estimate all structural elements of the project, such as, concrete, reinforcement, form-work, excavation, and back-fill at one time. Because of this restriction, contractors are forced to develop spreadsheet calculators ensuring bids were covering all required disciplines in their bids to ensure correctness. Construction bids missing important materials or a labor calculation is the number one reason companies incur large loses on projects they would generally have slim profits designed into the bid.

For example, designing a calculator to each structural element included in a footer foundation - Normally you would estimate your concrete, reinforcing bar, excavation, back-fill, and form work separately. When using a specialized concrete footing contractor for an example, the contractor will arrive at the clients project site at the appointment time, walk the site where the proposed project will be, and look over the construction drawings. A well-designed spreadsheet calculator will deliver a nice bill of materials when you input depth, thickness, width, length of footer, and type of reinforcing material. The calculator delivers a total material cost, labor cost, plus the detailed bill of materials including 10 to 20% standard overage included in each bid. Spreadsheet calculators eliminate the drive back to the office to use a big standalone computer holding the expensive software your company paid thousands of dollars to purchase and maintain. Many benefits for using a spreadsheet bid calculator system can save companies time/money, and many have realized the benefits for many years and still deliver results today.

If you are working towards a savings goal, using a word processor or writing them out will require constant updating. With a spreadsheet, you can simple add in how much more youve saved, and if you had the right formulas set up, it will do it all for you. First, set up a different sheet for your long term goals and your short term goals. You can have long term goals and then break them up into short term goals as well as have separate goals. Make the sheet look appealing with bold headers and colors. If you dont know how to use excel or other spreadsheet programs, you really only need the basics. Search the net to find out how to get started with spreadsheets.

I use a measuring wheel. I never use a tape measure any more. Tapes are too slow and usually only measure up to thirty-five feet. The measuring wheel can measure to one thousand feet and it costs the same as a big tape measure. Measuring wheels are usually made by the same companies that make tape measure, like Lufkin or Stanley, and they dont break as often as tape measures. Once you use a measuring wheel, you probably wont go back to a tape measure. I used to use the infra-red measuring device but I find them way too inaccurate. Usually, I measure before I start counting things like windows. Once I begin to count windows and molding, I make note of anything that will add or take away time, which means adding to the cost or lessening the cost. When I count windows, I make three columns, one for windows that are located below eight feet, one column for windows below fifteen feet, and one for windows twenty feet and above. This also applies to molding or anything else heights above eight feet, like dormers, ceiling medallions or whatever.

The most important thing I always keep in mind when creating a new Excel work book or worksheet is I NEVER assume that I will not want to add in new formulas or data to the spreadsheet because it is more than likely I will. With this is the forefront of your mind I would always spend around 80% of my time planning the spreadsheet and only 20% of my time implementing it. If you have not carried out spreadsheet design in this way before it may seem a little over the top, extreme or way out, or even inefficient, but the return on the investment of this time planning is extreme and way out also. Believe me it is quickly paid back over a very short amount of time. Once you have used this method and spend most of your time planning, the actual planning of the Excel spreadsheet in itself gets easier and more efficient. As we know the best return of investment to is to carry out an action once, and then reap the rewards over and over again by re using this action. In Excel an obvious example would be to create a macro that automates some activity you carry out on a regular basis or to create a template that will be re- used time and time again. This is my aim with this approach to spreadsheet building. To really plan the spreadsheet, and dont be afraid to spend a decent amount of time on it. My advice to you would be try this out on your next spreadsheet even if it seems a bit alien. Let me know how you find this approach to spreadsheet building.

When it comes to using Microsofts Excel Spreadsheet program there is no question that there are a variety of ways to accomplish many tasks. One of the things I like about Excel is the ability to format multiple columns at the same time giving them the same width. If you are unfamiliar with how this is done, read on and take a look at the steps I perform to achieve this task. You will see that it is very easy to do. The first thing you want to do, obviously, is open up Excel. Once Excel is displayed on your screen, go ahead and type in cell "A1" the month name "January". In the cell "B1" type in the month name, "February", in "C1" type in "March" and so on until you type in all twelve months each in their own cell on the spreadsheet.

A volatile function is one that re-calculates every time a work sheet changes. These include NOW(), TODAY(), OFFSET functions. If you use multiple or large amounts of these in a work book it will eventually start to slow it down. 5. Avoid Unnecessary Complex Formulas. One thing I have learned by developing spread sheets solutions for users is they (eventually) want to see all of the workings out of a formula. For example a typical sales formula of =(Price*SalesQuantity)-(Price*SalesQuantity)*Discount+(Price*SalesQuantity)*Tax Users will want to know the Sales Value Totals, the Discounted Totals and the Sales Tax Value displayed is separate columns. This is where we can break down the formula components into smaller formulas in their own columns or what we call helper columns. If you can increase transparency of calculations it will make the logic of the spreadsheet easier for users to follow resulting in less queries.
